Top Gardening Tips:
- Know Your Zone: Check your USDA Hardiness Zone to select plants suitable for your climate and to know your last frost date.
- Soil is Everything: Feed your soil with compost and organic matter to provide essential nutrients.
- Water Wisely: Water early in the morning to reduce evaporation and deep-water to encourage strong roots.
- Use Mulch: Apply mulch (wood chips, straw) to keep soil cool, moist, and suppress weeds.
- Start Small: Begin with a few containers or a small raised bed to avoid becoming overwhelmed.
- Planting Density: Plant in diamonds or triangles rather than rows to maximize space by up to 20%.
- Protect from Frost: Use plastic bottles with the bottoms cut off to cover and protect young seedlings from unexpected cold.
- Natural Pest Control: Attract beneficial insects and pollinators by planting herbs and flowers like marigolds nearby.
Easy Beginner Plants: - Vegetables: Lettuce, Tomatoes, Peppers, Radishes, Kale.
- Herbs: Basil, Mint, Parsley, Rosemary.
Essential Maintenance: - Weeding: Remove weeds early before they set seed to prevent future, more difficult, infestations.
- Pruning: Remove dead or dying leaves and flowers to help plants redirect energy to fruits and new growth.
- Daily Observation: Spend time in your garden daily to catch pests or diseases early.
