Bylaws
Article One - Organization Name
This organization shall be known as the South Schuylkill Garden Club (SSGC).
Article Two - Purpose
The purpose of the club shall be to stimulate a love and knowledge of gardening in all its aspects, to aid in the protection and conservation of natural resources to make a difference in our community, to work and cooperate with other organizations to improve quality of life through conservation and horticulture and to encourage friendship through gardening.
Article Three - Membership
Section 1. Members are expected to:
a) attend two business meetings a year;
b) actively serve on at least one committee each year;
c) donate time or saleable items at each fundraiser; and,
d) serve on one business meeting refreshment committee.
Article Four - Dues
Section 1. Dues shall be due and payable by the end of December.
Section 2. The Treasurer shall collect all dues.
Section 3. The club shall be a member in good standing of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania, District II/III, and, as such, pay dues necessary for membership.
Article Five - Officers and Executive Board
Section 1. Club officers shall consist of a President, a First Vice-President, a Second Vice-President, a Recording Secretary, and a Treasurer to be elected to serve a two year term in even numbered years.
Section 2. The Executive Board shall consist of the officers, the Past President, Committee Chairs. The President may appoint a liaison member to the Executive Board to serve in an advisory capacity.
Section 3. Club officers shall be elected at the November meeting, installed in December and preside on January 1st.
Section 4. A Nominating Committee shall be elected by members at the October meeting of odd-numbered years. The Nominating Committee shall make its report and call for any other nominations from the floor at the regular meeting in November at which time nominees will be voted on.
Section 5. No officer of the Club, except the Treasurer, shall be eligible for the same office for more than one term.
Section 6. Duties of Officers
a) The President shall preside at all meetings and shall be an ex-officio member of all committees. The President shall represent the Club at meetings of Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania and District II/III.
b) The First Vice-President shall, in the absence of the President or in his/her inability to perform the duties of office, act as President.
c) The Second Vice-President shall assist the President.
d) The Recording Secretary shall keep the minutes of each meeting and of the Executive Board, and, sign-in sheets of monthly meetings.
e) The Treasurer shall keep an account of all receipts and expenditures and pay all bills for the Club, and keep a current roster of Club members. The President will arrange for an annual audit of the books.
f) The Executive Board shall conduct the business of the Club.
g) Committees can be formed or disbanded by the needs of the Club.
Article Six - Amendments to the Bylaws
The Bylaws may be amended only at a regular meeting after notice has been given to members. No amendment shall be adopted except by 2/3 vote of those present. Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised shall be the authority on all points not covered by these Bylaws.
