Members Fall Decorating at the
Schuylkill Haven Train Station
Members of the South Schuylkill Garden Club were busy decorating the Schuylkill Haven Train Station for the upcoming Borough Day on September 30, 2023. Members Carol Haldeman and Kathy Townley both of Pine Grove and Jane Kruse of Pottsville posed with one of the decorated poles. Photo shy members of the club missing from the photo, but where instrumental decorating include Nancy Russial of Schuylkill Haven and Kim Morgan of Pine Grove.
Members of the South Schuylkill Garden Club were found recently in the Monarch Way Station Garden on Parkway in Schuylkill Haven. Members Linda Bollinger of Schuylkill Haven, Karen Huff of Auburn, and Carol Haldeman of Pine Grove were weeding and planting in the garden.
Members of the South Schuylkill Garden club prepare the train station for Schuylkill Haven Borough Days. Club members are Nancy Russial, Schuylkill Haven; Kim Morgan, and Kathy Townley of Pine Grove. Smaller dried floral arrangements like seen in the photo will be sold at the South Schuylkill Garden Stand in front of the Santander Bank on Saturday, September 24th.
Children's Garden in playgrounds at Bunker Hill in Pottsville (2004 and Walborn in Orwigsburg (2019) were established to introduce children to the wonders of nature.
Pine Grove Butterfly Garden* was restored in 2006 from a planting by Brownie Troop in 1999 along the Union Canal. Annuals and perennials compete for butterfly attention. A path was modified in 2017 o accommodate handicap needs.
Schuylkill Haven Butterfly Garden* replaced a rose garden along the Parkway in 2012 as feeding destination for pollen and nectar attracted insects.
Memorial Garden at the base of the hill behind the Schuylkill Haven Recreation and Senior Center offers a gateway entry into the planted area. Bricks are placed in memory of friends and family of the Garden Club.
Pollinator Gardens at Schuylkill County Fairgrounds Horticulture Building (2017 & 2018) with the Blue Mountain 4-H Livestock Club to educate the public on the importance of gardening for pollinators.
Schuylkill Haven Library Planting on the west side of the building is refreshed with seasonal plantings.
Scholarship is awarded to Schuylkill County students who further their education in horticulture, conservation, or a related field.
Spring Plant Sale features plants from member gardens of annuals, perennials, native plants, shrubs and trees along with identification and planting information.

Under the direction of Jane Kruse of Pottsville, the ladies mulched the pathways through the garden with mulch provided by fellow garden club member Linda Bollinger of Schuylkill Haven.
